about
Joey Filer joined the Studio in 2025 as an experienced media manager, licensed teacher, and video producer whose career has primarily existed in the overlap between Education, Studio Production, Digital Media, the Film & Television industry, and EdTech. He began his career with various video and communications positions at Loyola University Chicago. After Loyola, Joey worked as a Video Content Coordinator for Discovery Communications and eventually collaborated with Discovery Education and Major League Baseball as a Videographer and Video Producer. These experiences taught him the ins and outs of how to publish, edit, and produce educational videos and interactive digital assets on a large scale for students working in asynchronous learning environments. Joey Filer also has other significant experience throughout the Chicago media industry, including work at Audiotree Studios, where he learned the ropes on how to light, record, collaborate within, and maintain a state-of-the-art video production studio. Before joining UIC, he most recently worked at Highland Park High School as their Media Center Director and Filmmaking Teacher.
Now, the Instructional Design & Media Production Studio’s Media Production Manager, Joey, continues his journey pursuing how best to manage studio productions while leading a collaborative team that places access, creativity, and student experience as its highest priorities.
